Struct AboutDialog

Source
pub struct AboutDialog { /* private fields */ }
Expand description

The AboutDialog offers a simple way to display information about a program.

The shown information includes the programs’ logo, name, copyright, website and license. It is also possible to give credits to the authors, documenters, translators and artists who have worked on the program.

An about dialog is typically opened when the user selects the About option from the Help menu. All parts of the dialog are optional.

An example GtkAboutDialog

About dialogs often contain links and email addresses. AboutDialog displays these as clickable links. By default, it calls FileLauncher::launch() when a user clicks one. The behaviour can be overridden with the activate-link signal.

To specify a person with an email address, use a string like Edgar Allan Poe <edgar@poe.com>. To specify a website with a title, use a string like GTK team https://www.gtk.org.

To make constructing a AboutDialog as convenient as possible, you can use the function show_about_dialog() which constructs and shows a dialog and keeps it around so that it can be shown again.

Note that GTK sets a default title of _("About s") on the dialog window (where s is replaced by the name of the application, but in order to ensure proper translation of the title, applications should set the title property explicitly when constructing a AboutDialog, as shown in the following example:

⚠️ The following code is in c ⚠️

GFile *logo_file = g_file_new_for_path ("./logo.png");
GdkTexture *example_logo = gdk_texture_new_from_file (logo_file, NULL);
g_object_unref (logo_file);

gtk_show_about_dialog (NULL,
                       "program-name", "ExampleCode",
                       "logo", example_logo,
                       "title", _("About ExampleCode"),
                       NULL);

§Shortcuts and Gestures

AboutDialog supports the following keyboard shortcuts:

  • Escape closes the window.

§CSS nodes

AboutDialog has a single CSS node with the name window and style class .aboutdialog.

Each string may contain email addresses and URLs, which will be displayed as links.

Readable | Writeable

§authors

The authors of the program, as a NULL-terminated array of strings.

Each string may contain email addresses and URLs, which will be displayed as links, see the introduction for more details.

Readable | Writeable

§comments

Each string may contain email addresses and URLs, which will be displayed as links, see the introduction for more details.

Readable | Writeable

§license

The license of the program, as free-form text.

This string is displayed in a text view in a secondary dialog, therefore it is fine to use a long multi-paragraph text. Note that the text is only wrapped in the text view if the “wrap-license” property is set to TRUE; otherwise the text itself must contain the intended linebreaks.

When setting this property to a non-NULL value, the license-type property is set to GTK_LICENSE_CUSTOM as a side effect.

The text may contain links in this format <http://www.some.place/> and email references in the form <mail-to@some.body>, and these will be converted into clickable links.

Readable | Writeable

§license-type

The license of the program.

The AboutDialog will automatically fill out a standard disclaimer and link the user to the appropriate online resource for the license text.

If GTK_LICENSE_UNKNOWN is used, the link used will be the same specified in the website property.

If GTK_LICENSE_CUSTOM is used, the current contents of the license property are used.

For any other License value, the contents of the license property are also set by this property as a side effect.

Readable | Writeable

A logo for the about box.

If it is NULL, the default window icon set with Window::set_default_icon_name() will be used.

Readable | Writeable

§logo-icon-name

A named icon to use as the logo for the about box.

This property overrides the logo property.

Readable | Writeable

§program-name

The name of the program.

If this is not set, it defaults to the value returned by g_get_application_name().

Readable | Writeable

§system-information

Information about the system on which the program is running.

This information is displayed in a separate page, therefore it is fine to use a long multi-paragraph text. Note that the text should contain the intended linebreaks.

The text may contain links in this format <http://www.some.place/> and email references in the form <mail-to@some.body>, and these will be converted into clickable links.

§Signals

Emitted every time a URL is activated.

Applications may connect to it to override the default behaviour, which is to call FileLauncher::launch().

Window

§activate-default

Emitted when the user activates the default widget of @window.

This is a keybinding signal.

The keybindings for this signal are all forms of the Enter key.

Action

§activate-focus

Emitted when the user activates the currently focused widget of @window.

This is a keybinding signal.

The default binding for this signal is .

Action

§close-request

Emitted when the user clicks on the close button of the window.

§enable-debugging

Emitted when the user enables or disables interactive debugging.

When @toggle is true, interactive debugging is toggled on or off, when it is false, the debugger will be pointed at the widget under the pointer.

This is a keybinding signal.

The default bindings for this signal are Ctrl+Shift+I and Ctrl+Shift+D.

Action

§keys-changed

emitted when the set of accelerators or mnemonics that are associated with @window changes.

Widget

§destroy

Signals that all holders of a reference to the widget should release the reference that they hold.

May result in finalization of the widget if all references are released.

This signal is not suitable for saving widget state.

§direction-changed

Emitted when the text direction of a widget changes.

§hide

Emitted when @widget is hidden.

§keynav-failed

Emitted if keyboard navigation fails.

See WidgetExt::keynav_failed() for details.

§map

Emitted when @widget is going to be mapped.

A widget is mapped when the widget is visible (which is controlled with visible) and all its parents up to the toplevel widget are also visible.

The ::map signal can be used to determine whether a widget will be drawn, for instance it can resume an animation that was stopped during the emission of unmap.

§mnemonic-activate

Emitted when a widget is activated via a mnemonic.

The default handler for this signal activates @widget if @group_cycling is false, or just makes @widget grab focus if @group_cycling is true.

§move-focus

Emitted when the focus is moved.

The ::move-focus signal is a keybinding signal.

The default bindings for this signal are Tab to move forward, and Shift+Tab to move backward.

Action

§query-tooltip

Emitted when the widget’s tooltip is about to be shown.

This happens when the has-tooltip property is true and the hover timeout has expired with the cursor hovering above @widget; or emitted when @widget got focus in keyboard mode.

Using the given coordinates, the signal handler should determine whether a tooltip should be shown for @widget. If this is the case true should be returned, false otherwise. Note that if @keyboard_mode is true, the values of @x and @y are undefined and should not be used.

The signal handler is free to manipulate @tooltip with the therefore destined function calls.

§realize

Emitted when @widget is associated with a gdk::Surface.

This means that WidgetExt::realize() has been called or the widget has been mapped (that is, it is going to be drawn).

§show

Emitted when @widget is shown.

§state-flags-changed

Emitted when the widget state changes.

See WidgetExt::state_flags().

§unmap

Emitted when @widget is going to be unmapped.

A widget is unmapped when either it or any of its parents up to the toplevel widget have been set as hidden.

As ::unmap indicates that a widget will not be shown any longer, it can be used to, for example, stop an animation on the widget.

§unrealize

Emitted when the gdk::Surface associated with @widget is destroyed.

This means that WidgetExt::unrealize() has been called or the widget has been unmapped (that is, it is going to be hidden).

§system_information

system information

Source

pub fn set_translator_credits(&self, translator_credits: Option<&str>)

Sets the translator credits string which is displayed in the credits page.

The intended use for this string is to display the translator of the language which is currently used in the user interface. Using gettext(), a simple way to achieve that is to mark the string for translation:

⚠️ The following code is in c ⚠️

GtkWidget *about = gtk_about_dialog_new ();
 gtk_about_dialog_set_translator_credits (GTK_ABOUT_DIALOG (about),
                                          _("translator-credits"));

It is a good idea to use the customary msgid “translator-credits” for this purpose, since translators will already know the purpose of that msgid, and since AboutDialog will detect if “translator-credits” is untranslated and omit translator credits.

§translator_credits

the translator credits
