pub struct TreeView { /* private fields */ }
Expand description
Use ListView
for lists, and ColumnView
for tabular lists
A widget for displaying both trees and lists
Widget that displays any object that implements the TreeModel
interface.
Please refer to the tree widget conceptual overview for an overview of all the objects and data types related to the tree widget and how they work together.
§Coordinate systems in GtkTreeView API
Several different coordinate systems are exposed in the TreeView
API.
These are:
-
Widget coordinates: Coordinates relative to the widget (usually
widget->window
). -
Bin window coordinates: Coordinates relative to the window that GtkTreeView renders to.
-
Tree coordinates: Coordinates relative to the entire scrollable area of GtkTreeView. These coordinates start at (0, 0) for row 0 of the tree.
Several functions are available for converting between the different
coordinate systems. The most common translations are between widget and bin
window coordinates and between bin window and tree coordinates. For the
former you can use TreeViewExt::convert_widget_to_bin_window_coords()
(and vice versa), for the latter TreeViewExt::convert_bin_window_to_tree_coords()
(and vice versa).
§TreeView
as Buildable
The TreeView
implementation of the Buildable
interface accepts
TreeViewColumn
objects as <child>
elements and exposes the
internal TreeSelection
in UI definitions.
An example of a UI definition fragment with TreeView
:
<object class="GtkTreeView" id="treeview">
<property name="model">liststore1</property>
<child>
<object class="GtkTreeViewColumn" id="test-column">
<property name="title">Test</property>
<child>
<object class="GtkCellRendererText" id="test-renderer"/>
<attributes>
<attribute name="text">1</attribute>
</attributes>
</child>
</object>
</child>
<child internal-child="selection">
<object class="GtkTreeSelection" id="selection">
<signal name="changed" handler="on_treeview_selection_changed"/>
</object>
</child>
</object>
§CSS nodes

│ ├── button
│ │ ╰── [sort-indicator]
┊ ┊
│ ╰── button
│ ╰── [sort-indicator]
│
├── [rubberband]
╰── [dndtarget]
TreeView
has a main CSS node with name treeview
and style class .view
.
It has a subnode with name header
, which is the parent for all the column
header widgets’ CSS nodes.
Each column header consists of a button
, which among other content, has a
child with name sort-indicator
, which carries the .ascending
or .descending
style classes when the column header should show a sort indicator. The CSS
is expected to provide a suitable image using the -gtk-icon-source
property.
For rubberband selection, a subnode with name rubberband
is used.
For the drop target location during DND, a subnode with name dndtarget
is used.
§Properties

This mode is primarily intended for treeviews in popups, e.g.
in ComboBox
or EntryCompletion
.
Readable | Writeable
§hover-selection
Enables or disables the hover selection mode of @tree_view.
Hover selection makes the selected row follow the pointer.
Currently, this works only for the selection modes
SelectionMode::Single
and SelectionMode::Browse
.
This mode is primarily intended for treeviews in popups, e.g.
in ComboBox
or EntryCompletion
.

§Signals
§columns-changed
The number of columns of the treeview has changed.
§cursor-changed
The position of the cursor (focused cell) has changed.
§expand-collapse-cursor-row
Action
§move-cursor
The TreeView
::move-cursor signal is a [keybinding
signal]SignalAction
which gets emitted when the user
presses one of the cursor keys.
Applications should not connect to it, but may emit it with
g_signal_emit_by_name() if they need to control the cursor
programmatically. In contrast to gtk_tree_view_set_cursor() and
gtk_tree_view_set_cursor_on_cell() when moving horizontally
TreeView
::move-cursor does not reset the current selection.
Action
§row-activated
The “row-activated” signal is emitted when the method
TreeViewExt::row_activated()
is called.
This signal is emitted when the user double-clicks a treeview row with the
activate-on-single-click
property set to false
,
or when the user single-clicks a row when that property set to true
.
This signal is also emitted when a non-editable row is selected and one of the keys: Space, Shift+Space, Return or Enter is pressed.
For selection handling refer to the
tree widget conceptual overview
as well as TreeSelection
.
Action
§row-collapsed
The given row has been collapsed (child nodes are hidden).
§row-expanded
The given row has been expanded (child nodes are shown).
§select-all
Action
§select-cursor-parent
Action
§select-cursor-row
Action
§start-interactive-search
Action
§test-collapse-row
The given row is about to be collapsed (hide its children nodes). Use this signal if you need to control the collapsibility of individual rows.
§test-expand-row
The given row is about to be expanded (show its children nodes). Use this signal if you need to control the expandability of individual rows.
§toggle-cursor-row
Action
§unselect-all
Action
Widget
§destroy
Signals that all holders of a reference to the widget should release the reference that they hold.
May result in finalization of the widget if all references are released.
This signal is not suitable for saving widget state.
§direction-changed
Emitted when the text direction of a widget changes.
§hide
Emitted when @widget is hidden.
§keynav-failed
Emitted if keyboard navigation fails.
See WidgetExt::keynav_failed()
for details.
§map
Emitted when @widget is going to be mapped.
A widget is mapped when the widget is visible (which is controlled with
visible
) and all its parents up to the toplevel widget
are also visible.
The ::map signal can be used to determine whether a widget will be drawn,
for instance it can resume an animation that was stopped during the
emission of unmap
.
§mnemonic-activate
Emitted when a widget is activated via a mnemonic.
The default handler for this signal activates @widget if @group_cycling
is false
, or just makes @widget grab focus if @group_cycling is true
.
§move-focus
Emitted when the focus is moved.
The ::move-focus signal is a keybinding signal.
The default bindings for this signal are Tab to move forward, and Shift+Tab to move backward.
Action
§query-tooltip
Emitted when the widget’s tooltip is about to be shown.
This happens when the has-tooltip
property
is true
and the hover timeout has expired with the cursor hovering
“above” @widget; or emitted when @widget got focus in keyboard mode.
Using the given coordinates, the signal handler should determine
whether a tooltip should be shown for @widget. If this is the case
true
should be returned, false
otherwise. Note that if
@keyboard_mode is true
, the values of @x and @y are undefined and
should not be used.
The signal handler is free to manipulate @tooltip with the therefore destined function calls.
§realize
Emitted when @widget is associated with a gdk::Surface
.
This means that WidgetExt::realize()
has been called
or the widget has been mapped (that is, it is going to be drawn).
§show
Emitted when @widget is shown.
§state-flags-changed
Emitted when the widget state changes.
§unmap
Emitted when @widget is going to be unmapped.
A widget is unmapped when either it or any of its parents up to the toplevel widget have been set as hidden.
As ::unmap indicates that a widget will not be shown any longer, it can be used to, for example, stop an animation on the widget.
§unrealize
Emitted when the gdk::Surface
associated with @widget is destroyed.
This means that WidgetExt::unrealize()
has been called
or the widget has been unmapped (that is, it is going to be hidden).

. Both TreeStore
and ListStore
support
these. If @reorderable is true
, then the user can reorder the
model by dragging and dropping rows. The developer can listen to
these changes by connecting to the model’s GtkTreeModel::row-inserted
and GtkTreeModel::row-deleted
signals. The reordering is implemented
by setting up the tree view as a drag source and destination.
Therefore, drag and drop can not be used in a reorderable view for any
other purpose. Read moreSource§fn set_row_separator_func<P: Fn(&TreeModel, &TreeIter) -> bool + 'static>(
